Forget the mixes in the supermarket, all you need is delicious dark chocolate, whole milk and you can make your own rich hot chocolate. For best results use a rich dark chocolate.
Ingredients
- 3 cups milk
- 1/2 cup cream
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla essence
- pinch grated cinnamon
- 1 tblsp Kahlua or coffee flavoured liqueur
- 100 grams quality dark chocolate, roughly chopped
- 1 cup frothy milk
- 1/2 tblsp grated chocolate, for garnish
Method
- Gently heat the milk, cream, vanilla essence, cinnamon and Kahlua in a saucepan until hot, but not boiling.
- Add the chopped chocolate and whisk until melted and well combined. Allow the flavours to mingle for 5-10 minutes. Reheat gently. Serve in cups garnished with grated chocolate.
Cooks Tips
If you have a milk jug with a froth making whisk or even a coffee machine, heat extra milk to make it frothy and pour on top of the hot chocolate before garnishing. Look for Richfield’s 70% chocolate in your supermarket. With 70% cocoa solids, ideal for eating as well as cooking.
