Crumbles, like apple crumble, would have to be a New Zealand all time favourite - so why not make it savoury! There is hardly a quicker topping idea around and you can add your own variations with herbs and spices.
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 125 grams buter
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 2 slices light wholemeal bread, trimmed of crusts
- 1 pre made hot casserole
Method
- In a food processor fitted with the chopping blade, put the flour, butter and bread slices.
- Process until the mixture resembles crumbs. Pulse in the grated cheese. Season with a little salt and pepper if wished.
- Spoon over a hot casserole. Bake at 180ºC for about 20 minutes until the crumble topping is light and golden.
