In place of tomato sauce use tamarillo or plum sauce or a smooth-style chutney.
Ingredients
- 500 grams lean beef mince
- 1/3 quick-cooking rolled oats
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1-2 teaspoons mixed dried herbs
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ cup beef stock
- Topping
- ½ cup tomato sauce
- 150 grams mushrooms, sliced
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1 cup grated Cheddar-style cheese
- ½-1 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed dried herbs
Method
- Preheat the oven to 190ºC. Lightly grease a 6 cup capacity pie dish.
- Mix together the mince, oats, garlic, dried herbs, paprika and stock and season well with salt and pepper. Press into the prepared pie dish using a wetted spoon to smooth the mince, making a slightly raised rim around the edge.
- Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the centre and scatter over the mushrooms, pepper, cheese and dried herbs.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes. Serve in wedges and accompany with gravy or tomato sauce.
