Hazelnuts have a lovely flavour for baking and this slice won't last long.
Ingredients
- 1¼ cups hazelnuts, toasted and skinned
- 1½ cups rye wholegrain flakes
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup ground almonds
- 1 cup coconut
- ½ cup flour or use ground almonds
- 250 grams butter, melted
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
Method
- Chop the halzenuts finely and place in a bowl with the rye flakes, brown sugar, almonds, coconut and flour and make a well in the centre.
- Stir the butter and golden syrup together and mix into the dry ingredients.
- Press the mixture in a greased and lined 20cm x 30cm slice tin.
- Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 25 minutes. Cool. Ice when cold.
Golden Orange Icing
- Mix 1½ cups icing sugar with the grated rind one orange, 1 tbsp golden syrup and sufficient orange juice to make a thin icing.
